Solvents

Here are some examples of solvents: hexane, pentane, xylene, toluene, wood alcohol, carbon tetrachloride, propanol, isopropanol, isopropyl alcohol as well as benzene.

Benzene is an extremely toxic solvent.  We would not expect to find benzene anywhere in our environment.  It is even monitored in gasoline.  It is prohibited in dry-cleaning fluids and rubber cement.  How could it be present in your body?

What is a solvent?

A solvent is a substance that can dissolve grease.  There are many solvents used in industries but none dissolves grease as fast as benzene.

The living body is made of greases!  Fats and oils make the brain and spinal cord and nerves and the protective covering of every living cell!

Where is it accumulating in your body?

Different toxins accumulate in different organs.  This is called organotropism

If you accidentally drink some wood alcohol, it goes to your pancreas and eyes.  The pancreas makes your insulin and regulates your blood sugar.  People with "low blood sugar" or chronic fatigue actually do have wood alcohol in their pancreas. 

If you eat the tiniest bit of benzene in a polluted food, it goes to your thymus and bone marrow.  If you rub the tiniest bit of benzene into your skin in the form of skin lotion containing petroleum products, it is found in the thymus a half minute later! 

Xylene and toluene accumulate in the brain but isopropyl alcohol in the liver.

How do we get wood alcohol? 

Wood alcohol is a pollutant in carbonated beverages, artificial sweetener and many other foods.

Does your body can detoxify it?

At first your body can detoxify it; this is when your body is young and strong like a child's.  But as you keep drinking the wood alcohol, the pancreas wears out, the wood alcohol begins to pile up there and do a lot of harm.  It weakens the pancreas so much that any parasite can live there.

Where does it lead to?

The immunity of the pancreas is being lowered.  Bacteria, viruses, fungi, metal dissolved from tooth fillings, chemicals from the air you breathe and food you eat can now find a home in your pancreas.  Is it any wonder that this leads to diabetes?

Wood alcohol also accumulates in the eyes.  Sometimes they burn and itch.  Now the eyes let parasites in to multiply, like Toxoplasma from cats.  The eyes also let in toxins from food and environment and we call it allergies.  The real culprit is wood alcohol!

The most common parasite in the pancreas is Eurytrema, the pancreatic fluke of cattle.  All persons with diabetes have wood alcohol accumulated in the pancreas and a big population of pancreatic flukes growing there.  There is also mercury and gold present, from tooth fillings and gold crowns!  Cattle carry this parasite, and milk that is merely pasteurized always carries infective stages in it.  Eating rarely cooked hamburger would certainly give it to you!

Damages caused by solvents

Of course, your white blood cells immediately begin to eat it up and get it out of the thymus, but damage has already been done!  No tissue can have benzene in it without being damaged.

Benzene damages the thymus so much that everything else is allowed to land there, too.  The mercury from metal tooth fillings, the copper from your copper water pipes, the bismuth from Pepto Bismol, the malonic acid you drank in your orange juice, can all be found in your thymus after benzene damage has been done. 

It is as if the front and back doors to your house have been opened, letting in all corners.  We will discuss malonic acid in greater detail later.

What happens to the immune system?

Is it any wonder that the thymus can't turn out T cells when it is full of bits of your toothpaste, your hand lotion, your hair spray, your plumbing, toxic food and beverages?

Before the benzene damage, these loitering chemicals would have been escorted to the liver, to the kidney, and out of your body.  Now they are caught by the thymus and remain stuck there, accumulating to higher and higher levels.  The T cell production falls lower and lower.

Meanwhile, the bacteria and viruses, which are hidden in our bodies, have been quietly waiting.  Waiting for their chance to come out of hiding.  Waiting for their chance to grow and multiply as all living things must do to survive.  When the T cell level falls low enough, they seize their opportunity.

We are accustomed to thinking that we "pick up" our infections.  Indeed, we do keep picking up new strains.  But we already have in us all the bacteria and viruses that could make us very ill if our immunity drops.  They are not making us sick now because our immune system does not let them multiply.

They are not dead but simply "bottled up" in various places.  Most of them did not even make us sick when we originally picked them up because our immune system was strong at that time, too.

The immune system is not functioning well anymore, now what?

Now that the T cell count is gradually going down, this Pandora's box of pathogens is opening, letting out one after another, until the body is seething with infectious organisms.

Yet, the human body is large and strong.  It will put up a good fight.  It may take ten years before it begins to lose the battle.  Now it is called AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.  Acquired from polluting the thymus with hundreds of bits of garbage dumped on the body and into the body, but mostly from benzene.

What should catch our attention?

This garbage was thought to be "progress."  We are led to believe that "new, improved" lotions and detergents are "better".  When we see this label on a package we automatically reach for it. 

It may indeed, be doing a "new, improved" job on the dishes because cobalt is added to make spots invisible but the cobalt is doing a "new, more toxic" job on your body. 

"New, improved" taste in your coffees and herb tea blends may be due to adding flavour extracts to them, which also adds the solvents used in extracting! 

"New, improved" taste in cereals may be due to added flavours, which are extracts, again bringing solvents to these foods.

Simpler is better!

The less that is done to a food, the less chance there is to pollute it.  But, of course, such matters should not be left to chance.  Processed foods should be tested right in the grocery store for all the toxins they might have.

Banish Benzene!

Benzene deserves special attention not only because it is the AIDS-related solvent, but because it is presumed to be absent from our consumer environment.  Yet I have found traces in everything from bottled water to toothpaste!  It is so toxic its concentration is even regulated and tested in gasoline and dry cleaning fluid to reduce exposure to it in the air.  Can you imagine eating it or putting it on our bodies, even in minute quantities?

It is commonly believed that all petroleum products, including benzene, are carefully kept away from the food industry.  And under no circumstances would solvents like benzene be allowed near food.  This is wrong.  The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) in the United States specifically allows petroleum products to be added to food.  Mineral oil is an example; it is made from petroleum.

1. As a release agent, binder, and lubricant in or on capsules and tablets containing concentrates of flavouring, spices, condiments, and nutrients intended for addition to food, excluding confectionery.

Not to exceed 0.6% of the capsule or tablet.

2. As a release agent, binder, and lubricant in or on capsules and tablets containing food for special dietary use.

Not to exceed 0.6% of the capsule or tablet.

3. As a float on fermentation fluids in the manufacture of vinegar and wine to prevent or retard access of air, evaporation, and wild yeast contamination during fermentation.

In an amount not to exceed good manufacturing practice.

4. As a defoamer in food

In accordance with §173.340 of this chapter

5. In bakery products, as a release agent and lubricant

Not to exceed 0.15% of bakery products

6. In dehydrated fruits and vegetables, as a release agent

Not to exceed 0.02% of dehydrated fruits and vegetables

7. In egg white solids, as a release agent

Not to exceed 0.1% of egg white solids

8. On raw fruits and vegetables, as a protective coating

All of the following petroleum products are also “safely used in food” subject to similar conditions of purity and use: petrolatum (21 CFR 172.880), synthetic isoparaffinic petroleum hydrocarbons (21 CFR 172.882), odourless light petroleum hydrocarbons (21 CFR 172.884), petroleum wax (21 CFR 172.886), petroleum naphtha (21 CFR 172.250).

There is even one food that benzene can be used with directly:

21 CFR 172.560 (4-1-94 Edition) Modified hop extract.
The food additive modified hop extract may be safely used in beer in accordance with the following prescribed conditions:

(a)     The food additive is used or intended for use as a flavouring agent in the brewing of beer.

(b)     The food additive is manufactured by one of the following processes:

(1)     [describes a hexane extract]

(2)     The additive is manufactured from hops by a sequence of extractions and fractionations, using benzene, light petroleum spirits, and methyl alcohol as solvents, followed by isomerisation by potassium carbonate treatment.  Residues of solvents in the modified hop extract shall not exceed 1.0 part per million of benzene, 1.0 part per million of light petroleum spirits, and 250 parts per million of methyl alcohol.  The light petroleum spirits and benzene solvents shall comply with the specification in §172.250 except that the boiling point range for light petroleum spirits is 150°F-300°F.

(3)     [(3) through (8) go on to describe other allowable manufacturing processes using methylene chloride, hexane, methyl alcohol, sodium hydroxide, butyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, potassium carbonate, ethylene dichloride, isopropyl alcohol, trichloroethylene, palladium, hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, peracetic acid, sodium borohydride and other chemicals.]

Ironically, the law mandates the purity of the benzene used (§172.250).  It’s hard to imagine what worse chemicals the government agency is concerned about! 

And if you think one part per million doesn’t sound like a lot, keep in mind that the government maximum allowed level in drinking water is five parts per billion, over 200 times less concentrated.  Of course it’s assumed that by the time the hop extract is added to the rest of the beer ingredients, the concentration will be much less. 

But what really counts is the total amount consumed, over days, months and years.

Allowing the use of petroleum products (whose raw form contains benzene), in food has undoubtedly led to the worldwide lowering of immunity that is so apparent. 

The immune lowering effect of benzene has been studied for many years by scientists.  We just didn’t know that we were eating it!

I find benzene is present in foods and products that have been coloured, flavoured, stabilized, conditioned, defoamed, coated or preserved.  Although our regulatory agencies have been vigilant in checking gasoline, dry cleaning fluid, and outdoor air for benzene, the most toxic route, food, has escaped detection.  The present extent of benzene pollution is unthinkable and overwhelming.

Benzene Polluted Products

THROW THESE OUT

These are the products and food which I have found to be polluted with benzene.  STOP USING THEM IMMEDIATELY.  DO NOT FINISH UP ANY ONE OF THEM.  THROW THEM OUT NOW!  Throw them into the garbage and take the garbage out of your house.  Your health is worth more than the fortune you spent on them!

 

  • Flavored food, yogurt, jello, candies, throat lozenges, store-bought cookies, cakes
  • Pills and capsules.  At least a third of all I test are polluted.  This includes herbal extracts and prescription drugs.  Test yours and switch brands until you find a safe one.
  • Soaps, hand creams, skin creams, moisturizers
  • Toothpaste including health brands
  • Rice cakes
  • Marijuana
  • Baking soda and cornstarch (see Sources)
  • Cooking oil and shortening (use ONLY olive oil, butter and lard)
  • Personal lubricant

 

  • Bottled water, whether distilled, spring, mineral, or name brand. Bottled fruit juice.
  • Amyl nitrate, butyl nitrite, and similar products, commonly called “Rush”, “Poppers
  • Vaseline products (Noxzema, Vick’s, Lip Therapy), chapstick, hand cleaners
  • Cold cereal, including granola and health brands
  • Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) oil products
  • Ice cream, frozen yogurt
  • Chewing gum
  • Flavored pet food, both for cats and dogs
  • Bird food made into cakes
  • Cattle and poultry feeds, except simple grains

 


Solvents will leave your body by themselves.  You only need to stop using them.  Remember to tear out the benzene list and stick it to your refrigerator so the whole family can help you eliminate those products.

Horrors in commercial beverages

Commercial beverages are especially toxic due to traces of solvents left over from the manufacturing process.  There are solvents found in decaffeinated beverages, herb tea blends, carbonated drinks, diet beverages with nutrasweet, flavoured coffee, diet and health mixes, and fruit juices, even when the label states “not from concentrate” or “fresh from the orchard”, or “100% pure”.

Some of the solvents I have found are just too toxic to be believed!  Yet you can build the test apparatus yourself (How To Test Yourself, page 365), buy foods at your grocery store, and tabulate your own results.  I hope you do, and I hope you find that the food in your area is cleaner than mine! 

Remember that the Syncrometertm described later can only determine the presence or absence of something, not the concentration.  There may only be a few parts per billion, but an AIDS patient trying to get well cannot afford any solvent intake.  For that matter, none of us should tolerate any of these pollutants:

  • Acetone – in carbonated drinks
  • Benzene – in store-bought drinking water, store-bought “fresh squeezed” fruit juice
  • Carbon tetrachloride – in store-bought drinking water
  • Decane – in health foods and beverages
  • Hexanes – in decafs
  • Hexane dione – in flavoured foods
  • Isophorone – in flavoured foods
  • Methyl butyl ketone and Methyl ethyl ketone – in flavoured foods
  • Methylene chloride – in fruit juice
  • Pentane – in decafs
  • Propyl alcohol – bottled water, commercial fruit juices, commercial beverages
  • Toluene and xylene – in carbonated drinks
  • Trichloroethane (TCE), TCEthylene – in flavoured foods
  • Wood alcohol (methanol) – in carbonated drinks, diet drinks, herb tea blends, store-bought water, infant formula.

If you allowed a tiny drop of kerosene or carpet cleaning fluid to get into your pet’s food every day, wouldn’t you expect your pet to get sick?  Why wouldn’t you expect to be sick with these solvents in your daily food?  These solvents are just tiny amounts, but tiny amounts are nevertheless billions of molecules!  Your body must detoxify each molecule.

Prohibit Isopropyl alcohol

In addition to avoiding the benzene hidden in the foods and products, do not buy products that list propyl alcohol, propanol, isopropyl alcohol, and isopropanol, in their contents.  Isopropyl alcohol is the second most dangerous solvent to avoid.

CANCER is caused in part by isopropyl alcohol.  The other part is the same human intestinal fluke!  People having AIDS are at much greater risk of developing cancer for this reason.  They must be especially careful to avoid common rubbing alcohol.

Isopropyl alcohol is the antiseptic commonly used in cosmetics.  Check all your cosmetics for the word “propanol” or “isopropanol” on the label.  It is usually put on the label, since it is not currently suspected of causing cancer.

Many people use cosmetics with propanol in them and do not develop cancer.  The propanol is detoxified for them by their livers.  Eating moldy food with aflatoxins in it poisons the liver’s ability to detoxify propanol.

I don’t know if propyl compounds like propamide, propacetamide, propyl gallate, or calcium propionate could be converted by the body to isopropyl alcohol, so don’t take chances.  Do not use anything that has “prop” in the list of ingredients.

Don’t give your discarded cosmetics to anybody.  Don’t save them.  Don’t have them in the house anywhere.  Throw them out.

Here is a list of common body products that have isopropyl alcohol in them: cosmetics, shampoo, hair spray, mouthwash, mousse, body lotions, shaving supplies, and, of course, rubbing alcohol.  If in doubt, throw it out!

Although body products give us our highest concentrations, isopropyl alcohol is in our food, too!  One significant source is food flavour and color, these are extracted with solvents!

The concentrate extracted is called a “spice oleoresin”.  Naturally, the solvents should be removed before the final product is used.  But nothing can be removed completely once it is added, so there are regulations governing the amount left.  See 21 CFR 173.240 (4-1-94 Edition).

Another reason for isopropyl alcohol pollution (and other pollutants) in our food is the use of chemicals by manufacturers to sterilize their food handling equipment.  See 21 CFR 178.1010 (4-1-94 Edition).

Even if there were regulations governing removal of sanitizing solutions, the overwhelming truth is missed: that nothing can ever be completely removed after it has been added.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT ISOPROPANOL, LIKE BENZENE, LEAVES YOUR BODY, BY ITSELF, IN FIVE DAYS AFTER YOU STOP TAKING IT IN.

Isopropyl alcohol is a pollutant in cold cereals.  Stop buying all cold cereals.  Even the most natural cold cereals are polluted.  I haven’t tested every cereal on the market, but I have tested so many that you should not take a chance on a single one.  See Recipes to make your own.

  • store-bought and bottled water, including distilled, mineral, health store or self dispensed varieties
  • cold cereals, including granolas and health food varieties
  • rubbing alcohol
  • mouthwash
  • vitamin supplements and herb extracts unless tested

 

  • all shaving supplies, including aftershave
  • prescription, and over-the-counter drugs unless tested
  • white sugar (use confectioner’s sugar or brown sugar, but add vitamin C to detoxify mold)
  • decaffeinated coffee, Postumtm, herb tea blends (single herb teas are OK)
  • hair spray and mousse
  • carbonated beverages
  • cosmetics (see Recipes, page 457)
